Meet Our Founder!
Sohini Chaki Roy, the canine lifestyle expert is the founder and head trainer of Cognizant Canine Citizens. She is a certified professional canine trainer and behaviour consultant. She has an illustrious skill set and specialization in canine enrichment training and activities, including mental and physical stimulation. Sohini completed an intensive course with practical hands-on training and got certified by Cochin Dog Training Academy (CDTA), where she excelled in her work with finesse in canine behaviour modification techniques. She has dealt with 40+ dog breeds with diverse temperaments and different energy levels by using positive reinforcement and a variety of reward-based training methods. Afterwards, she spent two years doing her rigorous self-research in canine training and nutrition. She is an animal enthusiast since a tender age. Mainly she has been deeply committed to serving the Indian street dogs for the last few years, gaining an intuitive grasp of canine psychology and behaviour. This is her passion as well as her dream to give a better life to stray animals. She worked as an associate of a local animal shelter. In 2020 She organized an adoption event and rehabilitated four stray puppies into their permanent homes. As a liberal feminist, Sohini supports veganism and promotes adoption, over purchasing puppies from puppy mills. In addition to experience, Sohini strongly values current research, education, training and certification in this evolving field and she continues to incorporate newer innovations to her own knowledge and experience through continuing education. She attends regular webinars and conferences to improve and update her knowledge and skills. She is graduated from Jadavpur University with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy and she was pursuing a master's before deciding to follow her heart to pursue her dream and turn her passion into a profession. She resides in Halisahar, a suburban historical town with her familySohini is the mama to Poushali & Panchali, the rescued and adopted duo and a bunch of Indie street dogs. They taught her to be a more responsible parent and obviously a better trainer.
Our Training Philosophy:
At Cognizant Canine Citizens (CCC), our training philosophy is based upon the modern science-backed, game-based and balanced training methods to figure out your dog's behavioural issues. We are devoted to proving that there are no bad dogs. The well-mannered canine citizens are just waiting to come out. We believe any dog can be trained at any age with any kind of history. Our approaches are completely non-aversive. We do use non-abusive training equipment. Our mission is to foster a healthy strong relationship of mutual respect between dogs and their people through education-based programs, which must be learned and maintained consistently. Having a furry child is an amazing experience, but also a big responsibility. So we focus on in-depth parent training to make them communicate clearly with their dogs by understanding effective signals, cues, body language and voice modulation for desirable results. Whether it is basic etiquette or behaviour modification, the key to achieving life success is always parent follow-through. Our training instructor Sohini will educate dog people about the importance of species-specific enrichment for dogs to become more confident and calmer canines. Calm dogs are always happy pooches and much easier to live with them in harmony.
